‘Florida is not supposed to be cold like this’
Farmers fear bitter freeze could destroy strawberries and other crop!

A hard freeze warning was issued along the Gulf Coast, including most of Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Forecasters say the dangerously cold air mass could force temperatures into the teens in parts of the region by Thursday.

In central and south Florida, farmers were trying to salvage citrus and vegetable crops by spraying them in protective layers of ice and covering them in plastic. Florida Gov. Charlie Crist signed an executive order Wednesday that gave the state's Division of Emergency Management and other agencies the authority to provide farmers with assistance.

Weather in the South this time of year is typically chilly for just a day or two before temperatures rebound into the 50s. Many homes weren't built to handle such cold, with uninsulated pipes and heat pumps that must continuously run to keep things barely comfortable.

U.K. shivers through worst cold snap in decades-
Army rescues motorists after 16 inches of snow is dumped on some areas.

LONDON - Unusually heavy snowfall stranded hundreds of motorists, disrupted trains and shut down schools and airports across Britain on Wednesday as the country suffered through its longest cold snap in nearly 30 years.

The British military was called in overnight to help rescue motorists when up to 1,000 vehicles were caught in a massive snow-related traffic jam in Hampshire, in southern England. Many people were evacuated to nearby rescue centers but some people slept in their vehicles overnight.

I hope it is warming up for you. It is a cold one this morning -33F with a windchill of -34F. I think I will be wearing the toque today.

We've gotten down to bout 28-27 and this weekend it's going to get colder with- dare I say it..... chance of sleet or "a" snow flake! Crap the high for Sat and Sun will be in the low 40's! I feel sorry for our tourists, this is NOT our typical winter weather!!!! Still we're no where near what you all are going through!
